Have a seat!

  • The Unplugged Woodshop 388 Carlaw Avenue Toronto, ON, M4M 2T4 Canada (map)

It’s generally accepted that when two or more people are seated communally on a bench, everyone becomes an equal. Seated at the same height and even sharing the same support structure provides an even ground for discussion, debate or even silence. The two-person bench that you will build in this class is based on a bench found in the dining hall of the Snow Hill Nunnery, featured in the book We Sit Together by Francis Cape. I will guide you through the building of this mid-nineteenth century bench using hand tools. You will also be working without numbers or measuring – a technique known as referential building. When you learn to free yourself from numbers, it’s amazing how much easier woodworking can become. Click here for more info!!!!!
